I had my RBTA in a 40B then switched to my 180 . He had been more string like than bubble in the 40 for a while . Then moved to 180 . After a week or two he moved to glass and I moved him back on a rock hoping he would stay . Well he didn't, and moved then I found him in two pieces this morning on the other side of my tank .

During that time I had him ... He went from bubble to string . Then thick stings ... Then moved to glass ...

Sometimes he seemed like he had a clump of food coming out of mouth also.

Was all of this because he was getting ready to split ?

It really just sounds like its uncomfortable with its new environment. They split when stressed. Maybe give it some more time.
