RBTA and Clowns Paired...but I have a question?

So I kind of forced my clowns to pair with a new RBTA that I bought.

I used a large quarantine container with holes and set in inside the tank. I put the RBTA in there, then caught both clowns and put them in the container.

It's a large enough container where they have plenty of space to not be with the RBTA, and I also put some rubble in case they preferred to not pair up, but sure enough, after just a couple of days, they have a new home.

They have now been together and paired up in the container for about 5 days. One of the clowns ventures pretty far away from the RBTA while the other, doesn't ever leave (except to eat).

What I am wondering is, should I go ahead and release them back into the tank? Do you think they will stay paired? Or should I leave them in there longer?

I think once the bond is secured given a week or 2 you should be fine but it sounds like one will most definitely be in there the minute you release them back into the tank.

ok...thanks...in that case I'll leave them in there a few more nights. They are eating well and everything so I guess it can't hurt.

Usually when clowns bond with an anemone they stick with it. Let them be for awhile and see if they go back. Sometimes they will stay away for awhile and then go back.

Well its been a couple of weeks already since I put them back....no luck yet. Should've known better than o think you can force nature. lol

It's not an easy task to pair clowns. After 4 attempts I finally have my gold stripe maroon paired. It took 4 attempts though, the first time I couldn't find another gold stripe so I had tried it with a regular white stripe that ended horribly! Since I was able to get them paired up I only had one fire tip bubble that they would host in together but now my fire tip bubble anemone split twice so now I have a total of 3 anemones and they jump between all 3, sometimes separately sometimes together.

But if you really want a pair, don't give up! Good luck

I actually have two true percs (not tank raised) which makes it even crazier that they haven't paired.

What type of clowns do you have? Have you turned off the flow in the tank and fed near the anemone?

Haven't tried this yet. I'll start trying that.

Has anyone tried the clownfish picture thing?

Tank raised or not makes no difference. RBTAs are not a natural host to percs.

Give it time, they may take to it, they may not. Forcing them into it may kill them.

yeah, that's why when I did it I used a relatively huge box and provided other hiding options, I didn't want them to have only the RBTA as a secure space. That said, they chose the RBTA over the rocks. But yes, I don't want to try that again.

They take more to carpets although I did have a pair host an rbta once I just kept feeding in the area of the rbta and eventually they took to it

I have two that stayed apart for quite a while. When they matured, they paired off and went to the RBTA. They have been laying eggs for years now.
