RBTA and LTA Pics

I thought I'd post some picture of my new anemones.

Here's my RBTA, it's pretty settled in and seems fairly content at the moment. Do you see any clown fish?

Here's my LTA. At first glance it looks like it finally booted, but no such luck. It was lying on it's side with it's foot up about an hour later. Hmmm. Where are the clown fish?

Here's the same LTA. Oh look, there two beautiful clowns that are swimming about, totally ignoring both of the anemones. Sigh.

I really hope the LTA boots soon.

It's a good thing they don't host your anemones at this moment considering their size would hurt the anemone. Your RBTA looks a little bleached too.

The strange perspective can be a bit misleading. Since the fish are in the foreground, they look a lot bigger, relative to the anemone, than they really are.

Unless you're tank is really deep and tall I don't think it is that misleading ;). You're anemones should be a good threee times larger in diameter than your clownfish if not more to be fully capable of hosting two clownfish.

That looks more like a Bulb Anemone than a RBTA.

A RBTA is just a color morph of E. Quadricolor.

Not really anything productive add, but "here comes the gators?" Hilarious that:
A: your grammar is incorrect
B: the best thing to ever happen to you was losing that bet. At least for once, you avatar is respectable.

There, does that make you happy?

Oh I see...you must be a gator hater. Call me up when your team wins three national titles in a row.

Ok so the bleached look, is that because of the stress of mobing, and/ or lighting and food? I have a new BTA that might looked bleached-ish, and I have been told to feed her once daily to nurse her bak to heath. PS I do not watch NCAA anything, but I think it is WAY cute that you have to post that Avitar....sorry. :)

I'll retake some pictures tomorrow. There were a few things going on - the tank is two feet tall and two feet deep, and I was shooting at a downward angle so there's a bit more foreshortening that normal. In reality the anem is about 2x the size of the larger clown and 4x the size of the smaller clown. The clowns have no interest in it at this point anyway, so it probably has time to grow.

I forgot to turn the flash off on the camera, so everything is a tad bit washed out. But you're right, the RGTA was a little pale. Probably because I took the pic before I fed her. She's pretty colorful again today.

I'm more concerned about the LTA, it still isn't attaching to anything. It's eating ok, so maybe it'll be fine.

Yeah the flash does tend to wash out the true colors of a reef tank. Even with the flash, your RBTA shouldn't be that pale looking though. As long as you feed it additionally and provide it with a good environment, it should regain it's zooxanthellae algae in no time. :)

As for the LTA, I would definately be concerned if it hasn't attached to anything yet. Is there a lot of flow in your tank? Even if there isn't, try turning off the flow in your tank for about an hour and place it's foot into a crevice and see if it attaches then.

Yeah I can't wait till my punishment ends. I can't stand the bulldogs.

I'll give the RBTA some extra feedings over the next few days and hope for the best.

I'm very concerned about the LTA. I've had the powerheads turned off in the tank for most of the past two days and it still isn't attaching. I tried shutting down the flow entirely for a couple of hours, and it didn't attach then either. I've dug it a hole in the gravel and it hasn't moved away from that spot, it just isn't attaching. Yesterday and today it was looking like it had finally attached, but when the lights when out in the tank it layed down on its side again with its foot up.

It still has good color, and it's eating, but I'm getting really worried. Even though I've had marine tanks for years, these are my first anemones so I'm definitely still learning about them.

Quick update: RBTA has lost it's washed-out look, at least it had the last time I saw it. Yesterday it moved behind a rock so I can't see it anymore. The spot it moved to is pretty dark, so I imagine it will come out soon.

I had to fill in the holes I had dug for my LTA because the live rock structure was starting to collapse into the holes. So I got a piece of PVC, stuck it in the gravel, scooped out the gravel from inside, and plopped the LTA into the PVC hole. It's been there for a couple of days and actually seems fairly happy so I'm hoping it's starting to attach.

The clown fish still have zero interest in either anemone.
