RBTA Attachment

I have a new RBTA and it has attached to the rock in a seemingly odd way. The foot is attached to the underside of a rock and then during the day it expands out to the top of the rock. Is this typical? It seems happy. I originally placed it on the flat surface and it moved off of the flat surface and attached underneath as can be seen in this photo.

Thanks
Pat

That's actually really good and optimal. It's foot is out of the flow and it can peek out into the light it prefers. Some of my larger ones giraffe out like that for a good 12 inches.

very normal...as will it staying hidden under the rock from time to time as it acclimates itself to your system...give it the opportunity to do so at it's own pace. don't move it at all or try to force feed it too soon...
when did you get it?

all in all, you have a very nice looking RBTA to me, enjoy :)

I hate to but into this thread but I have a couple questions about my RBTA. I purchased it about a week ago and it was approximately 10 to 12 inches across at my lfs at home it seems to only be about 8. First question is where should I place it in my tank (high or low). Second question the tentacles are only bulb shaped at night when it is smaller is this normal. Third qeustion how much flow. Sorry again for butting in

First time reefer, just put the BTA in your tank on a rock and it wil do the rest. Never move or touch your anemone unless feeding it small amounts. Low to medium flow, it will change shapes and deflate and move around and this is normal. Next time do research before buying a fragile animal.

That sounds great, thanks! I have had this anemone for almost two weeks. He came home from the LFS on a small rock and I placed the rock on the top side of the shelf that it is now attached to underneath. I observed that it seemed to want off of the rock so I adjusted the rock so it could feel its way off of the rock and now this is where it ended up. Below is a picture of when it first went into the tank. I am very happy with this anemone. Now I just need to get my Perculas to let the RBTA to host them. Not sure if it will happen but this morning I did notice that the clowns were hanging out directly in front of the RBTA whereas they used to spend their evenings in the back left corner of the tank so maybe they are considering the RBTA as a host? :)

Thanks again,
Pat

The RBTA is now below where he was in this picture. I had to move the candy cane coral when the RBTA dropped down right next to it! I also moved the purple Acan as I was worried about it being stung. I thought the RBTA might like to be higher in the tank but it seems happy for the moment.

first, love the FTS Pat :)
I always admire a nice clean (and uncluttered) set-up...nicely done
from what I see it does appear that the nem looks healthy and happy but I would not be surprised to hear that it has moved...like I said, let it do it's thing (you might be re-aquascaping a couple times before its done :p)

also, considering it's size and the fact that you've had it for two weeks, I would start to consider feeding this nem small Mysis (in small amounts) maybe once or twice a week at most and watch how it progresses...

as for the percs...are they being hosted by any of your LPS? I'd be happy that they are leaving the nem alone for now as it will help reduce added stress on the nem as it acclimates itself...IMO if it does happen, let it happen naturally on its own timeline...

BTW, what type of lighting are you using?

all the best,
C :)

Thanks for your kind words. The clowns have only been in the tank for a couple of weeks and in that time they have not shown much interest in any of the LPS corals. Although I purchased the frogspawn earlier in the year as a possible host for my planned future clownfish purchase. My lighting is a 36" T5 fixture with 4 39W bulbs. 2 white and 2 actinic, plus 6 led moonlights. The tank has been up and running since January but it was started with LR and from a smaller tank that was started in August, 2010. (This tank is 57G) I am getting ready to replace the bulbs with new higher quality bulbs. The fixture is "Deep Blue" and I don't think the bulbs are the best.

Thanks again and I will post more pictures as the tank changes.

My RBTA does the same thing, all you see if the head, but the foot is firmly 2-3" into a hole in the rock thus protecting itself from just about everything.

Nice looking RBTA, good luck!!
