rbta care & needs

I haven't tried an anemone in almost five years... I think I'd like to try again. Could someone please give me basic info. on their care/needs? Flow requirements? Feeding? Etc. Thank you in advance,

RBTA's enjoy pretty intense light. About the same as what you'd expect for most LPS and even up into what you'd expect for most SPS. I can't really give a general lighting rule because I dunno your tank size and what type of lights you plan to use.

The don't tolerate dirty water. So keep the nitrates down as low as you can.

As far as flow goes, they generally don't require direct flow from a power head, but if they don't like where you put them in the tank they'll just move away from that spot. Unfortunately if you have corals in the way they might get stung while the anemone tries to find it's "happy place".

As far as feeding goes, they rely mainly on photosynthesis but just like any anemone they'll benefit from some meaty foods once or twice a week. Something like krill, or a piece of fish, or squid, mysis shrimp, or even pelleted food to an extent.

If your lighting isn't really intense, than you might have more luck keeping the anemone alive with regular feedings, but they usually don't thrive for very long without the proper lighting IME.

They can get pretty big so make sure you'll have room for one. I've seen and heard of RBTAs getting over 12" in diameter.

Hope that helps!

Also, the Anemone FAQs at the top of this forum is helpful.

Along with all the good information D provided, BTAs (Entacmea quadricolor) prefer to attach to liverock, in particular they like to attach their foot in a cave or on the underside of liverock and expand outward. They are generally the best species of host anemone to keep, as they tend to be hardy and recover well from transport. They host a range of clownfish, and natural symbionts that are easily found in lfs are tomato clownfish, maroon clownfish, and clarkii. They also frequently will host ocellaris and percula, though these aren't natural symbionts.

Kigs, I have 2 in my FO tank.
I have 2 tunze streams in a 90g tank w/ 250adj, metal halide.
One reaches for the surface, the other fully spreads out.
They also like to be blown around by the streams.
They really eat the mysis from the daily feedings too!
IMO, they have taken over my tank!
But everyone thinks they are the coolest!
