RBTA Dead?

I have heard of people literally cutting pieces of RBTAs to split them but tonight while I was reaquascaping my rock, my RBTA was apparently attached to 2 different rocks so I was being careful to just work around it and I accidentally moved a rock and one of them fell ripping the anemone in half :eek1: :mad2: :hmm6:

Now what? Did I kill it???? Is there anything I can do or is it just a "wait it out and hope it lives" situation? UGH...it was finally the size of a volleyball too....

I had the same situation just leave them alone chances are they are tough enuff to survive.Just dont bug them and at least a half will make it.

Since it was already growing in your tank it is probably healthy and you will be surprised at how well your two anemones look in the morning. There isn't really anything you can do but wait and see what happens. If you have clowns they might cause the healing process to be a little slower. I would just see how they are acting tomorrow.

I would def keep an eye on how th eclowns are acting in the tank.I would also say keep an eye out for an infection in the tissues of the anemone.

Ok....it ripped right through the middle of it though...right through the mouth...:hmm6:

My clowns wont leave it alone...should I catch them and throw em in my quarentine for a few days till the anemone is looking better? it looks like guts are hanging out of it. I am really really mad right now. Even if both halves live, it looked so good being so big and full :mad2:

How do you tell if there are infections? It just looks like white guts to me...should I spot feed it until it fully heals?

Two things to watch for, one half releasing and getting sucked into a PH and the clowns pestering it to the point it starts to wither away. I just picked up a RBTA that was fragged with a razor blade. As long as your water quality is good you should have two RBTAs. I would throw a new bag of carbon in the sump and just try to reduce their stress levels as much as you can while they heal.

Do NOT try to feed it until it has time to recover.

I just went back to the living room to take a pic and one has moved to the back of the rocks and one moved wedged up under a rock and is hard to see...I guess if they are moving around thats a good thing right? The new aquascape allows for a lot more flow to pass through where they were but I've never seen them move that fast...they both seem to be still attached to the rocks though, not just floating around.

I'll work on getting a good pic...

That sucks, hopefully you'll end up with two. How long did you have in your tank for it to grow to volleyball size?

What powerheads are in the tank? I would suggest putting sponges on the intakes or cutting some dress socks to go over the inlets to prevent them from being sucked in if they are moving around a lot. Your biggest risk ATM is them releasing and getting chopped up.

shut your lights off for shorter amount of time. they will be in really big shock after splitting with your help;) turn the flow of on them and keep them away from flow or light.

Okay at this point things are heading in the right direction!Let them move where they want.Im not saying if ones in the path of a power head let it move there but if they are moving close to a coral move the coral not the anemone!

So just keep an eye on where they move, coloration, development of the mouth, ect.
