RBTA Got Shredded > Pics

:sad2:Hello,

So I woke up this morning and checked on the two day old RBTA I got for my sons tank. I noticed the water was cloudy and pieces of glowing red tentacles all over the place. It appears the RBTA hitched a ride on a Turbo Snail which then led it to the small Hydor 180 powerhead.

I quickly dislodged it and removed it from the Turbo snail. I then quickly did a 75% water change (all i had) and removed many pieces from the substrate.

I think he looks fine but part of its toe got pretty mangled. I placed him back on the rock and he is sticking to it.

Do you think he, my Wrasse, and other corals should be okay? A 75% water change cleared up the water and I added some MicroBacter7 to help any spikes.

I had the same thing happen in my 54 and didn't do nearly as large of a water change and everything survived. Sps and all

Yeah I just got worried about the cloudy/polluted water so I used all I had. Rather be safe than sorry.

I think everything will be okay...

Would the Anemone eventually health itself or will it always have a chunk missing from it? I see some tentacles with some slash wounds.

It should heal itself over time

Thx.

It appears maybe a piece of his mouth got damaged as well. I am sure it will heal since I know people propagate them by cutting them down the middle.

It should heal on it's own. Bta's are pretty hardy and can with stand a beating. I would cover the power head with a foam cover or some type of mesh to prevent it from happening again.

Cutting them with a razor blade is different than tearing them up with a small propeller. It will most likely heal but you still need to fix the situation.

As in fix the situation are you referring to cutting the anemone to a smoother cut (taking off the dangling flesh), or covering up the powerhead?

I took the powerhead off for now but going to put a mesh bag, for filter media, over the powerhead to make sure this does not happen again.

^ Sounds good. I was going to Frag this weekend but went to the ASU game.

Just picked out some big chunks of meat from the powerhead. Poor Anemone.

24 hours after the incident and the Anemone looks to be okay. Does anyone know how long it takes for the anemone to heal itself? I don't think it currently has a mouth since half of it was shredded.

It most likely still has part of the mouth, which would eventually grow into a full mouth. Healing times will vary - sometimes up to a month or so.

Hmm... Yeah just wondering how long until I should attempt to feed him again. I will wait for a week or so it can focus on the healing process but not sure if it will be okay by then.

Mine recently started to climb on my drain pipe and got mangled. Managed to get it out before it was lost and result he torn part spilt off now have two.
