If it just suddently looks like the top pic, then I would say either it's expelling waste or it might be getting ready to divide. Mine look ragged right before they clone. Another possibility would be that the water chemistry is off--is there any detectable ammonia or nitrite? Has anything suddenly changed as far as aquarium conditions?

i fed it a little bit ago when it looked fine. I checked the water and everything is normal and like it always is. some of the bubble tips are coming back as i speak. i also smelled it after it looked like this and it doesn't smell bad at all. so i hope it is splitting. also i have a clown as you can see, should i put like a strawberry case around it so she doesnt bother it

ive been watching it and i didn't see it expelling any waste, but when i went on karens website it said that on a dying rose you can see these little noodles around the mouth. i think i can see what she is talking about

That mouth is huge, even for expelling waste, there might be something amiss here.. If your water is fine jsut give it a bit of time and keep an eye on it.. keep us posted.

Hopefully tomorrow it will be its normal self again. Sometimes they deflate as part of their digestive cycle. If it looks like it does in that first picture for several days, then I'd be concerned, but I wouldn't be at this point.

i think your rihgt in that it's slpitting, two sides are starting to get thicker and the middle seems to be stretched to the extreme and is very thin.

the base just split into two but the oral disk is still attached. any other things i should know since this is the first time an anemone has ever split on me

No, not really. Just make sure any power heads are covered as one of the parts might wander a bit. They tend to prefer staying out of the bright light for a few days after splitting also. No need to try and feed either part for a week or 10 days after the split is complete. It can take from a few hours up to a week for the anemone to completely tear itself apart.

thanks a lot for all the help. this thing really scared the crap outta me when i saw it all shrunken. now one of the sides tentacles are inflated again.

I think your RBTA should be the poster child for "anemone split day" hogben. I can envision the cards now.

Yeah, WM, it can be unnerving seeing the anemone going from normal to looking like it's been scalded. With RBTA's I've learned how resilient they are. So, no matter what they look like, I don't get too freaked out anymore.

i just took a pic before the lights went out ill post it right when i get back from guitar lessons promise

ya hogben yours is the most beautiful red ive ever seen
and heres the pic sorry it blurry but it kinda move way outta the light into the corner of the tank
