RBTA max temperature

was curious with all the heat of the summer, what is the max temp an RBTA can take for say hours, 85 f? would this cause bleaching and do they recover?

I believe 85 would be okay, but it would be best to blow a fan across the top of the tank to cool things down if you can. That and maybe not run the lights during the day. The problem is that it is not really the temperature as much as the CHANGE in temperature. So that may cause some issues. Maybe someone else will chime in.

They can do okay at 85 F for a good while, assuming temperatures are normally run within a higher range. Suddenly running 85 for extended periods when the tank averages 77-78 may be a problem.

When I had my anemone, it wouldn't be uncommon for the tank to reach 85 throughout the year and I never experienced problems.

I have a friend who runs a coral farm in a greenhouse. She loses livestock if the temperature gets above 82F for any length of time--even in 700G vats, which are more insulated against sudden change than the average reef tank. I agree that it's much safer finding a way to keep the temp lower--and stable.

Not necessarily, but certainly possible. Unfortunately, there's no single number or temp in which things are guaranteed to bleach. For example, a poster above remarked about 82 F causing a problem for someone--I've always run my system at at LEAST 80 F, with temps climbing to 85 and never had a problem. I'm not saying others can't and don't experience issues at higher temps, but giving an example of how variable this can be.
