RBTA placement

hey guys, I'm taking home my first BTA home today. It's a 2 month old RTBA that split off from the huge one in our 200g display at the LFS i work at.

I was just curious as to what placement is best for these? My set up is a custom made 30gal rimless, dimensions are 30" x 18" x 12" deep. My lights are 2 30" Coralife actinic and 10000k HO T5's and 20 blue 1 watt LED's. I have 2 power heads, a 170gph on the top right & a 160gph on the bottom left. The 160 is on a timer and runs in a 6 hour on/off cycle.

The mini carpet anenome i have moved three times beofre he settled, and i would like this guy to be stay in an open view location and hope my clown likes it.

So should I go high water column close to light of more in the middle (only 12" deep remember) and then what water current? Tanks in advance!

only person that can answer you this question for sure, would be RBTA himself.

I do not think we have any anemones on these forums to chime in and tell you where they like to sit in your set up

even if an anemone showed up, it would need pics to have a good understanding of how the tank is set up. rocks and power heads and ...

yea I had one spit they just kept moving around they would find a spot they liked but every time I fed them they would drop to the bottom and then look for a new location they liked they did kill a few of my coral along their many journeys

yeah i figured all that, but thought maybe someone had luck with a certain place.

I ended up placing him in a spot and he moved about 1 inch to the right and has stayed for the past 3 days! However, for my birthday (saturday) my girlfriend surprised me with a new coral for the tank (an awesome 4" long brain coral :bounce3 so now i have to make the BTA move, he is too close to where that new brain fits the best :headwally: but we will see what happens!

You are better off finding a new place for the brain coral. My BTA hasn't been able to find a place to anchor himself in my new 93 cube ever since I moved him from my 125. He has been doing laps around my tank for over 2 months now.

A BTA that cant find a spot is going to be a much bigger problem then a brain corals perfect placement imo.

Took your advice and moved the brain, enough room should be there now, even for the RTBA and Carpet nem to grow and for the sweepers of the brain to not effect anything...

BTW in 6 months to a year.... that small RBTA could be as big as 6-12", and may be very close if not touching that brain coral, just something else to keep in mind.

My RBTA moved to one spot and stayed there since last September. Started out about the size if a golf ball and grew to be big as a soup bowl till hr snagged part of the base were the tentacles are at. Took him out put in a hospital tank and now have two but neither of the two have s mouth to feed it so I am worried now. I did pit them back in the DT in the same area were it was at and they have stayed there.

Yeah I am aware of the sizes they get, as this little guy is the split of the giant mother rtba in our 200 gal display at the lfs I work for. Hope that in a year i'll have a 90 rimless cube

I had one RBTA that stayed were I put it. But every 4 to 6 months or so it would split and the new ones would move all over the tank. One of them never did stop moving for longer than a week or so. I lost a lot of corals before I removed the RBTA from my tank, not their fault tho. Almost all of them like to move. I beleive I got really lucky when I got one RBTA that did not move.

It can be hit or miss if you get one that doesn't like to move. But the chances that it will stay right were you put it are not that good.

You'll just have to keep an eye on things for a while to see
