RBTA split

I got two small, about quarter size, rbta about a month ago or so. Since then I have fed them either mysis or brine shrimp every other day with a turkey baster. About a week ago I started to notice some white spots on the larger of the two which was about a 50 cent piece size now. Last night I looked in there and it seemed a little retracted or something, but just not right. This morning I notice I now have two about a quarter in size out of the one. Sorry, only actinic lights here.

To me they look good, but I'm no expert either so opinions would be welcome as I now have three of these beauties and I really would like to keep them alive. Any advice on what I should do to help them along?

It will solve all your questions. Make sure you do all the reading you can on this website. If you want it to split faster, try spot feeding it once a day. Here's a picture of one of mine. I feed it once a day everyday, and its huge! and wont stop splitting.Its a bright red/neon green rbta. Im in Chicago, maybe we could do a trade once yours splits or something like that. :beer:

they look bleached to me (maybe some of the experts will chime in). what sort of lighting do you have on your tank? lots of times LFS don't have the necessary equipment to keep these animals and they bleach out rather quickly..then you're left with an unhealthy anemone to nurse back..

proper light, feeding small foods (like mysis) and solid water quality will get them back up to speed.

They have been that color since day one, and never changed. I run the aquaticlife t5 with two 700+ and two 420/460 actinic. When I first posted a pic of them on here I had one or two others say they had some just like them. The only problem I could see I have is trate and phosphate issues, but I'm working on them. All my corals are doing good and growing, and I wouldn't think that the one nem would split and look like it does if water was way out of wack. I'll check everything tonight as it is water change night too.

Mine look like that aswell and are even bigger, have around 20+ and all are just as pink as your's, poor guy's are all bleached. Mine i got from the fish store that is stopping with saltwater, the anemones are pink like that for over 1 year so they can survive in that color, but i prefer nice red color instad of this pink......

The advice i got from karenroses is to feed all my anemones every other day silversides, so thats what im gonna do. ( pff that are a lot of silversides i just counted my anemonhes and i come at 40 wops more then i thought and im getting 3 more tonight aswell )

That's actually not true. There are two reasons why people think why BTA's split: they will split when they are extremely stressed - better odds for one of them to survive. Also, they will split when they have extra energy. The later is good, the former not as much. Given the size of your anemone when it split, and it's obviously bleached color - it likely split because of stress.

Well that's not what I wanted to hear. Tested all last night, trates and phosphate were 0, alk at 8, calcium at 420. What could/would be stressing them?

Not at all, just wanting as much wisdom and help as I can get for these anemones.

Check for light quality shift. Clearly the RBTA are stressed and bleached. I had a rose go pink, changed the bulbs and 3 months later back to red. The good news is if you fix light you will have 3 nice roses.

Not sure what 700+ is? need at least one good daylight bulb (aquablue...) Not sure if you have 1 420 & 1 460? Both put out low par, consider replacing one with a blue+, nice blue color high par. aquablue, fijipurple, 2 blue + works

Give it some Rod's lighting doesn't have to be High- Flow go those if there isn't enough flow they will be stress from that, and also not being feed for months. Your lighting is also fine.

How long are your lights on a day? 8, 10, 12 hrs? Well I guess that doesn't matter as long as it's getting light.:frog:
