This is my first BTA and this is the first time that it has split. Is there any thing i sould be aware of, or should i do any thing special.? Or just let it do its thing? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Keep an eye on both of them, sometimes they wander a bit after they split. Other than that nothing needs to be done. I like to feed mine about a week after they split once they can take in food. In my thoughts it gives them extra energy to heal faster, but I have nothing to scientifically back that thought up.

Agree with the above. my rbta split into three about two weeks ago. I asked my LFS the same question and got exactly the same words of advice. Good luck and keep up with your water changes.

How long did it take to split since you got it??

Keep an eye on the halves, there´s a possibility to wander and get under a rock or a dark place and die.

Yes i feed it. A small piece of squid 2 times a week and what ever mysis, brine, krill, Etc. that it gets during my daily zoanthid/palythoa feedings. It parked right in front of the mp40 so what ever blows through, it eats.

One thing I forgot to mention. I was reading that stress could cause a split.. Ive been dealing with a masive flatworm infestation, over the past 2 months ive been manually sucking them out and 2 weeks ago i decided to dip all my live rock with flatworm exit. Then after dipping all the rock i treated the tank. For 3 days all the zoas/palys and mushrooms looked like crap. About a week after, all my perams were back to perfect, every thing opened up was looking better than ever(flat worms were all over every thing) And bam the nem split. So im assuming that it was a stress related split.

BTW I didnt lose anything from the flatworm exit treatment, only problem that showed up was 2 fish had popeye for 3 days or so and every thing is back to normal.

oh, thank you for sharing.

I have an orange tip bbt for 3 years and never splitted :(

It never had a several stress and it´s there, a single monster

My RBTA grew really fast when I first got it too. Split after a month or so and has stayed 2 individuals ever since (approx 6 months). They are both very large and I feed them on the weekends... scallops. The larger is at lease 7-8" across and the smaller is about 6-7". I keep expecting them to split again but they don't ... just grow and grow (and eat). :)

From what i have read on this forum, feeding them frequently will cause them to split since the anemone thinks there is enough food to support more than one of them in the tank.

Im going to try that. feed 1 every other day and feed the other one 1 time a week, and see if the one that eats more splits faster.

twice a week. Sunday and thursday, it´s when I usually feed.

More than twice a week, the digestive system won´t have enough time to process the meal and will have a several bacteria load that can migrate to anemone´s tissue killing it.
