RBTA - Will he be okay?

Hello! I received an RBTA yesterday, about 2" across maximum. He latched onto a rock right away and then descended down into a small hole in the rock, deep enough inside that I can no longer see him. Will he be okay? I've lost 3 anemones (1 long tentacle, 1 maxi mini, 1 BTA) in the last 2 months, 2 to a powerhead and 1 to something else (he died within 12 hours). 125g, params are fine and have been for many months.

I acclimated him for about 2 hours and then put him in, powerheads off for about 20 minutes. turned the powerheads back on slowly and fed it a silverside. Seemed to be fine as he slowly descended into the rock. I'm really afraid he'll go through the powerhead or that he already has.

I did find a little chunk this morning in the powerhead but it looked like it was from the maxi-mini that went through it 3 days or so ago.

looks bleached.. and if it got caught in the powerhead.. doesnt sound good for it.. observe it and if it looks bad, QT and treat the nem.

Not possible. He was shipped, by the way. That was after about 15 minutes in the tank. after 30 minutes or so he had descended into a hole in the rock where I could not see him. I am currently at work and even were I home I would not be able to see him as he is inside that hole.

I've also had 2 nems go through the power head. I always end up with a chunk of white "meat" and never can find anything else from the nem.

from that pic he looks fine, if he dissapeard into the rock then just give him time, he is prob. just adjusting to the new lights.

on a side note if you keep loosing anemones to powerheads I strongly suggest getting a cover for them so it don't keep happening.

I determined that I lost the RBTA to a powerhead. Not sure that I understand how 3 or 4 anemones in a row go through a powerhead... Not only have I wasted $300 on them, but I also killed 4 healthy inverts.

if the anemone isn't happy they will continue to move, and alot of the times when they move they will get sucked up in a powerhead as they just float with the water movement.

what size tank do you have?
what lights?
what are your water parameters? (numbers please)
what powerheads?

3x 125w reefbreeders

this is always a dumb question. 0 nitrates, .025 phos, 420-450 calc, 9.0-10.0 dkh 1.026 sg 78-79 degrees 1200-1400 mg

what powerheads?

3 hydors - 1 800 gph 1 1250gph and 1 3250gph

everything looks fine as long as your phosphates are .025 and not .25

I would still look for covers for your powerheads, even nylon stockings will work, this will prevent them from entering the powerheads.

Thanks. I probably will never get an anemone. I'm not even interested in them anymore.

Sorry to hear of your loss. If you do decide to try again, I'd recommend putting some sort of filter over the intake of your power head. I've lost a couple of anemones to power heads, too. My favorite anemone decided to move after a month and went into an MP-40 with the sponge filter on. Nuked the entire tank's fish population. There was only a tiny gap between the pump and the sponge, but that was enough for it to get sucked in. Now, I just have a dedicated tank for my RBTA.

Nylon stockings? Example...I am confused lol. I have a Korialia in my tank currently and may get an anemone shortly. I would like to go ahead and prevent this from happening to my new addition.

lol the cheap nylon stockings you find at most stores that women wear, cut the ends off and slide them over the powerhead.
