RDSB-in-a-bucket Q's

I tried wading through the Calfo RDSB-in-a-bucket uberthread but, sheesh, I don't have time to sift a thread that long...

Anyway, I was hoping some of the veterans around here could answer a few simple ;) questions:

1 - How critical is the absence of light?

2 - What is optimal flow across surface?

3 - Fine grain oolitic. Can I just dump in the sterile stuff from the bulk bin and let it 'age' or is live preferred?

TIA!

1.if it is lit you will have algea issues to deal with
2. just a slow flow about 1" above the dsb.
3. some live sand is needed to seed it. the more live the better IMO
