I upgraded two tanks to larger ones in January. I put a RDSB in a bucket on the 75g but not on the 58g. The 75g has a higher bio-load and zero nitrates but the 58g is currently climbing it was at 3 two weeks ago and is now at 5, it also a diatom bloom starting. I'm sold and will be putting RDSB on it also.

I have one on my 500 LPS/Softie. 3 years no problems.
I just added a 110 gal refug to my 330 SPS. The refug has a DSB.
The only disadvantage to a proper sand bed if flow. If your flow is low to moderate I highly recommend a DSB.
By proper I mean with lots of life.
For a SPS tank I recommend a DSB in the refug and bare bottom in the tank...But then again your limited in the type wrasses you can put in the tank.
Its all a compromise.

Yeah.....that is my plans for my new tank. Planning to be predominately SPS with bare bottom. I am trying to get as much info on the RDSB before I start the build process......I was tossing around the idea of running a separate fuge, but really see no point since I could combine both in the same tank......Any pics would greatly help as well.....What type of flow rate are we talking about as well through the RDSB?
You are sort of reinventing the wheel with your questions as the sticky on this topic will give you a lot of information on what you are asking as well as questions you have not even thought about asking yet. But to answer that question, I have 300 gallons per hour over the remote deep sand bed which is not, by the way, in a refugium (I have that too)
Not annoying, it is just impractical to give you all the things you will need to know. The sticky is "Reference threads for All things Salty" and within that are links to Deep Sand Bed in a Bucket and other useful threads. They are long but have really good information.
