RDSD design...Will it work?

Just signed up at photobucket also and testing. The RDSB pic is what I used for garden setup. I was wondering if this set up would work for a RSBD. I would fill the bucket with sand and leave about 6" from the top. Water would be pumped from sump via 1/2" soft tubing ran inside the 1 1/2" sump hose with an elbow at the end poined sideways. The water would rise and return via gravity through 1 1/2" hose and airate a bit with the waterfall effect at sump. I drilled a hole in the center ring at the top (side) of the bucket and siliconed a 1 1/2" barb fitting. Thoughts? Should I go for something with more surface area?

Looks about as good as it gets. Very simple, thats how its supposed to be. Whats the pump flow?

No elbow. What you want is a fast moving stream of water OVER the top of the sand. You dont want to disturb the sand. The fast moving stream is what keeps detritus from collecting.

I had a rio 1400 running 6 5gal buckets. I made a manifold to sit on top so they had equal flow. Not sure what to use for this....

What about a T so it will push left & right just under the surface?
