So im growing tired of my current rock set up and am thinking about changing things around. I have read some stuff on doing this and it doesnt seem to be that big of a deal i just have a few questions. I am battling kind of high nitrates due to my lack of husbandry at the end of summer and just started my first big water change in a series of quick WC's over the next week. Tomorrow i am doing another one and figured since im already doing a good 30% WC that this might be the right time to do it. Many people have stated to leave the sand alone as much as possible so you dont spike a mini cycle. I have 3 engineer gobies that love to be under the rock. If i move the rocks wont i need to re bury the base ones so that these things dont tumble my new setup? also the 3 gobies have created big bare bottom spots in their caves. after i move the rocks wont i want to fill in the spots?

how deep is your sandbed? Unless you have a DSB, I wouldn't worry too much about moving sand around.

about 2-3 inches of sand....depends where the gobies decide to start dumbing what they dig! these things are crazy. At first i had buyers remorse when all they seemed to do was hide but now they are very active and have more than tripled in size.

Even still be prepared to do a water change. You might see an ammonia spike, from the sand be stirred up.
I'm doing a change tomorrow, Monday and possibly Tuesday or Wednesday to reduce nitrates anyways. Do you think this will be enough. I'm leaving Thursday morning for Christmas so if you don't think it will be enough then I will wait till afterwards. Thanks for the reply
