Re-Aquascaping

I have a 120g mixed reef that's been running for almost 6 months. I want to re-aquascape one side of the tank. Has anyone done this with fish and coral in the tank? Is it ok to do this? Will I have to worry about anything like another cycle or trauma to the corals or fish?

i have done this several times to my tank and never had any problems just be aware of were everything is at so you dont kill somthing

Just take your time and make sure you dont crush anything such as corals or fish. The best way may be to take out the rock you want to re-scape and play with it outside of the tank until you get the design you want so you can then put it into the tank -- avoids stress on the fish

What about problems caused by digging up rocks that are partially buried in the sand? Could you release nutrients / H2S moving rocks around?

Although my tank is only 40G, I have re-aquascaped a few times (ok so more like 5 or 6) with no affect other than a few stressed fish that was quickly fixed with a little food. I always did it when I had a water change to do so I could take out some rock and coral. I would put them in the bucket of "dirty" (if you will) water w/ a power head. So far so good...just an idea.

Just redid 1/2 my structures and no problem. good news is skimmer went crazy and pulled out stuff.

I agree with Kimm. I do a water change and then swish the rock in the bucket of dirty water - unreal how much stuff comes off it.

Inhabitants are never bothered, except the fish trying to find new hideout not that things have changed.
