Re: Halide lighting

Is it necessary to run some fashion of actinic lighting on a 75g when running two 400 watt 10k halide pendants?

I'm currently running roughly 500 watts of PC's on the tank with about 50% devoted to actinic. I more or less would like to add or replace with the halides to get that "shimmering" effect. It's not necessary with what I'm keeping. If I have to add actinic lighting, and thus build a canopy, I'd rather keep what I have and avoid the headache.

Thanks.

I think if you went will 10k's you would be fine i like the look of xm 10k's you don't need it but it doesn't hurt to have it either.

go with 14 K once they burn in they are really nice and no other lighting is required although it does look nice.

I did not think the 14Ks were bright enough though I liked the color, but at 2x400w on a 75g, they should be plenty bright and you would not need actinics for sure with 14ks.

It is more of a preference thing.
