re: PLEASE HELP!!!

I purchased a Midas Blenny two weeks ago. He in my opinion acclimated normally he moved around till he found his home. I Had and have 1 Yellow Eye Kole Tang and a Sailfin Tang. That were already living in the tank. The Midas Blenny would come in and out of his spot. In this last week he is out constantly but he generally just swims at the very top of the tank almost poking his head out??? He is eating fine. Is that normal behavior for the Blenny????? My parameters are normal ph 8.2, ammo, nitrate, nitrite 0.. Phosphate 0 calcium at 460 DKH is at 10. Any help would be appreciated..

Best,

Mayleen

BUMP PLEASE HELP... She swims at the very top to the point of exhaustion that she will lay on the ground for a few then try again....

No, this is not normal behavior.

Since this is so odd, a couple of questions:
- Is he being picked on?
- Do you have good flow in your tank and water surface area that is open to air (i.e. everything is not covered by glass)?
- Is the tank in a room that does not get much airflow? Maybe the water in the tank is not oxygenated enough with the addition of the new fish causing him to go to the surface.

I hope you get this figured out; those are really cool fish.

Based on what we know so far, flukes seem to be a good possibility. PraziPro might help. As the fish is new, ammonia burn of the gills might have occurred sometime during capture and transport. If the fish is having difficulty breathing, you need to take action quickly or it won't make it. You might add an air pump to the tank to help with oxygenation. Also, if you don't have really good flow in your tank, add a powerhead or two.

What size if the tank?
