What's the best method for repairing or replacing the silicon sealer on a glass aquarium? I have leaks on the bottom seal.
Can GE Silicon II with bio-seal be used?
Doug
I have heard that all GE II now has the bio-seal stuff, I'm not sure about GE I. Check the label on some GE I door and window and if it does not say anything about bio-seal or any anti-mold/mildew agents it will be fine.
I went through every tube of silicone at our Home Depot yesterday, and they all have Bioseal or anti-mold agents in them. I had to buy a tiny tube of Aquarium sealer for the same price as a full size tube of GE II sealer. Problem is I need about 6 more tubes.

I found mine at Wal-Mart. GE I 100% Window and Door. It produces strong vinegar smelling fumes when wet and curing. If it smells like wet latex paint, you got the one with Bio Seal and it's the wrong one.
This one says White. You want clear. My Homey Depot carries it too but they keep it on the floor, almost hidden.
What about the old silicone?I got a tank thats suposedly dosent leak but the silicone in some of the coners is missing or is not sticking so well.Do you just go right over the top of the old stuff or try and clean it off.I thought i had read that you are supose to go over the old stuff but wasnt sure?
thanks
I have resealed many aquariums in the past . First take all the old silcone out . Use a razor blade and get as much off as you can . The reseal the tank. Any questions just send me a pm and we can talk
Silicon will not bond to old silicone..scrap it clean with a razor then i belive you want to use Isopropyl alcohol to clean the glass before adding a new bead...if the beads are long i would also suggest taping then seams off about 1/2" from the seam, after smoothing silicon remove tape immediately.
