Ready for da Bimac.

Hey its been like 3-4 months since I've done anything at the forums. Hello octomonkeys and cephlapoder. Whats going on these days? Anyhooo, my tank has been running for 3 months and I'm ready for the octo.
Everything tested out just fine.
One last couple o questions.
When I get mr. bimac outta his bag should I have some live food ready and then after I get him started on live food for a few days, shall I feed him some frozen shrimp from the super market?
Any tips on feeding ands tuff of the sort would be most welcome.
Take care everyone,
Devon

Hey Devon...... long time.........

Have you spotted the captive raised bimacs thread yet?

I have only ever had one octopus that didnt show any interest in food after being released out of its bag after a few minutes. It would make sense that the octopuses are starved for a couple of days to stop them fouling their bag during transport and that they are hungry by the tiem we get them. If the live food can live in marine water and isnt something, like a damsel, that could stress out a newly acclimatised octopus then, go for it.
I still have a lot of small live crabs and shrimp that will already be in the tank my next octo goes into.

Frozen shrimp, or ANY frozen food for that matter should do for short periods of time, no problem. I havnt had a problem feeding that way at all. However, fresh is best, and should try to get that for the octo.

The best way I have came across for feeding new cephs was using a 18" piece of rigid airline and making a point at one end with a knife. Using this to attach bits of food onto and offering it that way. Sometimes they are initially scared of a hand offering them food, but have never seen one have a bad reaction to the tube.

Hope everything else is okay with you. Havn't seen you online for ages...

hey

Em probably best to let it get used to its new water over the period of 20 mins to an hour..... depends how dirty the water is that it comes in, normally i leave em about 30mins but one time it was less than five cuz she climbed out the bucket and slopped onto my hands!

yep i remember.....:wildone: :wildone: :blown: :celeb1: :wavehand: :smurf: :celeb2: :frog: :fish1:  :artist: :bum:
