Ok...so i'm placing my order today for the 180G acrylic with socalcreations. This is what they told me about the front corners...what do you think i should do? pros and cons?

"Normally we round over the front corners of the tank, they are not bent like other manufacturers, but have a 3/8” radius to take off the edge. If you want square corners let us know and we can do that for you."

Depends on you....Breaking that sharp edge will probably help if you have kids that might accidentally bump their head against the corner......Is there a price difference?

My SoCal tank has the rounded corners. I think it looks better and less painful if you accidently bump against it. You could also consider doing just a bevel. Don't know if they do that tho but it shouldn't be that hard, just a different router bit.

I picked up my socalcreations tank and I really like how they did the corners, it isn't rounded but, they curve it and I think it looks really good.

my tank has rounded corners.. take a step back and think about every detail that you want before you place the order...

take a look at some other tanks before you make up your mind, how do you want your overflows, are you sure?...

thanks guys...i just dont want that rounded corner look that disotrts the view - i hate that. and...i thought it would be hard to clean around a rounded corner that a straight corner.

gabriel...i am getting what i always wanted -one EXTERNAL overflow baby!!! i only drive 600-700gph through the overflow.

lol i changed the look of my tank dozens of times before i finally was happy and decided to place the order. one thing i know for sure.. once its made there is not turning back.. that said i think you tank should be 30" deep with a 36" tall stand lol

and if you want to get a better skimmer in the future? what then.. plan ahead... whats 2"? telling ya.. you should have came over and checked out my set up for ideas... ;) :p

Don't listen to Gabe. He just knows BIG BIG BIG :D

lol thats true:p

I'd have Randy build a 36" stand. I have a G3 skimmer and the stand Randy built for me is 36" H. If I would've gone any lower than that, I would've had a more difficult time removing the skimmer from the sump for cleanings.

Also, when they round off the corners and edges of the tank, it's only done on the outside, not the inside so the water side is easy to clean. If you went with eurobracing, they will bevel and slightly round the edges of that so you won't get cut. I'll tell ya right now, if you leave all the edges square, you will get hurt when u work on the tank. I know I have when I first got my tank going. The rear portion of the tank is not rounded and I got cut. IMO if u keep the front corners square, you will see a border on those corners, when they round off the corners, it will look like one continuous pane of glass, or acrylic in this case. To me it's more of an eye sore and distortion to keep it square other than rounded.

If you are having trouble with decisions like this, just go over to their shop this Saturday and take a look at the tanks they currently have in their shop that's finished.

i am sold on the rounded corners now.

my next challenge is deciding where to drill holes for the Reefdart intake

heh, I hear ya man. I went nuts making sure I thought everything out before I had them start building. My sump especially that I designed.

You'll have a lot of time to think about where the holes will be drilled since that is the absolute last thing that Steve will do for the tank. Have they already added you to their calendar and gave you a start date?

who meeeeeeee?
