heater set up

fallback: off
probe name: temp
on temp: 77.0
off temp:81.0

im really afraid of messing up my temp as im new to controlling the tank with the controller. id also like to get texts and emails if the heater goes over or under the temp set. im having trouble hooking up the email. if someone could help me id appreciate it

i also am not getting any amps reading from the apex but it says the heater plugged into outlet 5 is on (auto)(3_5)...this is outlet 5 correct?

Noticed you heater is set to go on at 77 and off at 81. Do you really intend to have a 4 degree temperature swing!?!?!?! I have mine set for a 0.3 degree temperature swing, which seems to be about the norm. I suspect you might be in the wrong outlet. Easiest way to verify is to manually set the outlet to on, or plug a lamp into the outlet to verify it's coming on or off. Also, if your heater already has a built in thermostat, it mint be set too low. My heaters internal thermostats are set about 1/2 degree above my apex to serve as a failsafe should the apex outlet ever stick.

programming looks fine. i do agree with jeffhaag, narrowing your target range to at least +/- .3 or .5 degrees for consistency. i have my tank to that tolerance day and night, but i have it cool down to 78.5 +/- .5 degrees at night though, but that's just me.

i recently bought a new eb8, and the amps were reading zero even when all outlets with equipment were turned "on". It should have been reading at least 1 amp+ with everything running. You have to unplug all equipment on the problem eb8 or switch them to off via the controller. then telnet to the controller. once you're in type in "zeroeb8_X), in your case you'd type in "zeroeb8_3" then hit enter. this should calibrate your eb8 to zero amps. when done, turn on or plug in your equipment and check your amp readings.

Go to http://reeftech.webs.com/ and download the Apex New User Guide.pdf. It is slightly easier to understand and more a detailed guide book than the factory user manual. the guide will help you with your e-mail setup and alert functions.
