I used an Eheim compact plus for the return on my 57g and it was the least of my noise problems. If I were starting a new set up, I'd investigate that line.
You would just run them seperate and parallel to one another, its just nice having piece of mind that if one failed and i was at school and work all day, my system would be fine. Nothing wrong with redundancy on a return pump imo.
Are you looking for your return pump? If so, you could totally do two pumps, one hooked up to each return. One drawback though is that an extra pump adds heat and you're trying to get by without a chiller.
