Rebounding tank from ick

Ok guys, so blue tang got ick... he's ready to be reintroduced into the main tank which currently only has fox face and some clowns who are not currently showing any symptoms nor have had it.. question is, should I get rid of my rock, sand and water? What are the odds blue tang is going to get ick again? Would really prefer to keep my rock and just redo the sand bed as cost is obviously a factor.. thanks guys!!

If one fish has ick, all the fish do. They might not show symptoms but the only way to rid the tank of it is no fish for at least 30days(i believe) or longer.

Yah I've been reading a lot of threads on what to do.... makes it real confusing but I'm going to have to go fish less in the main tank for a while.. I did not realize there were so many different opinions out there on how to treat. I have also learned my lesson on why QT is important.

There are also some serious pros who think every tank has ick and that by keeping really healthy systems and feeding well the fish build up enough immunity that it doesn't bother them.

I introduced a purple tang any guess what ich came. All 3 tangs got it. And what i did was say screw the fallow period nobody had time for that or the space sometimes. I fed my fish heavily with frozen misis, emerald, brine, selcon, garlic and popped 2 fish oil pills in their food. Ich had 3 rounds and it went away 00000 casualties. I wanted to add a yellow tang but was nervous due to getting over ich 2 weeks ago. But I said f it why not. Got him from someone on suison city and in he went. He's been in there for a week and no ich. Not saying it will work for you but worked for me.

I dealt with Ick when a few months after I set up my tank. I had already quarantined all my fish and ended up picking up a tang locally that someone had had for over a year. I assumed that it was safe to put it in to my main display. Well that was a bad idea.
My wife called me at work one day and told me that my fish all had white spots. The one that had the most ick was the new fish.
I put my fish back in quarantine with Coppermine but ended up losing most of them.
I went 80 days without fish in my main display. I haven’t had any reoccurrence it has been a year and a half.
I have bought most of my new fish from Madhu in San Jose. He does TTM along with Prazi. He recommends quarantine the fish for a few more weeks even though he as treated them.
First time in 18 years in the hobby I have ever had to deal with Ick. I should have know better.

Ok so it's been a few months and the blue tang is doing very well still in QT.. other fish in the main tank show no signs of ick.. blue tang is still in hyposalinity QT tank which did the trick with the elevated temp. What are my concerns with adding him back into the main tank? We're trying not to work backwards but I know ick is likely in the main tank- rocks, sand, ect

Well he will get stressed from the transfer and likely show ick again. So unless the other fish are pulled removing the blue is a mute point. Healthy feeding and good water in main may lessen the visable ick on the blue.

I'm thinking we will put all the fish in QT and run the main tank at hypo-salinity and fish less for a while (fish only tank) which will give me a chance to re do the tank. Do I have to get rid of the rock and sand being there was ick in the tank?

Ick has a lifecycle and that lifecycle will come around and will eradicate the rock and sand of ick. So, no need to remove it if you don't need to.
