Rebuild and recovery of a dead tank

@jason2459 @kharmaguru How are you guys dosing your Kalk? I'm still going old school with a Zoo Med dripper. Looking into automating it a bit. As I've mentioned in many threads, I still do a lot of things the old school way, Metal Halides, dripping kalk, etc. Thanks to a used Apex and Sean's help, I've come a bit more into automation.

I had a separate 20g tote before with the 180 and used a peristaltic pump that ran once a minute 24/7.

Now with the tank and sump move I wanted to reduce containers so combined my ATO and kalk dosing together. Limiting my ATO to only run 5 seconds every 10 minutes has really spread it out nicely and still keep up with evaporation. Currently a basic little pump in there.

I like your numbers. They'd only be a problem with low nutrients so I wouldn't necessarily change things other than diluting your kalk as you suggested. I personally switched to a doser for kalk and put mag in my ATO and that's working for me.
Yeah I'm thinking if I do anything it's adding 1/2cup to my ATO instead of 3/4 cup for now.

Everything looks pretty good. Except my Duncan. Duncan's hate me. I've never had good polyp extension with Duncan's. I have no idea where my frogspawn went to. I'll blame my urchin for that.

The corky looks recovered but I need to suck some mushrooms away from it.

My LFS had this in today and I've never seen a pipe organ in person before. I had to get it.

Though I may have to return it...

My filefish is running to hide. He had to of been a dog in its previous life. I noticed it nipping at
it.

I haven’t seen a Pipe Organ in a LFS since the mid 90s and, back then, they were impossible to keep.

I believe over the years as our hobby knowledge has grown and technology got better they are fairly easy to keep.

I tried one once about 20 yrs ago. It melted.

Sounds about right.

I think the reason they were difficult to keep back in the late 80’s / early 90’s is the trend (at least in my area) was to encourage a lush growth of hair algae. Yep, it was considered a sign of a healthy tank. Of course with a Pipe Organ, the algae would overtake it.

It's pretty amazing looking and didn't realize how red/purple it was under the polyps. I just hope my filefish gets tired of it and moves on. Will have to watch it today. Not like I can move this one next to something else it might like like I did with the corky and the tang.

Pipe organs are really cool. I had one way back when ( before I lost everything)…haven’t seen one in a store for a long time.

Pulled out the Turbo's Aquatics ATS tonight. Amphipods galore. I've had an explosion of them it seems. They tend to wax and wain.

Seems like half my pictures didn't turn out but it was thick.

This one did take and can see it filling out the bottom

And this was after I already squished out the water and tried to catch some pods with a pipette. Not that I didn't have plenty already. None of the amphipod pictures captured for some reason. I need a new phone.
