Rebuilding my 90

Finished with one day to spare!

Here is the final setup. Please excuse the filthy glass.

Sump with skimmer running. Skimmer is going nuts and basically pulling clear water. I think my son got some soap in my top off water so I'll have to wait for all that to come out, not to mention I didn't clean any of the rock or sand before putting it in.

I "borrowed" my son's toy box (with my wife's permission) to house the top off water.

And finally my rock work. It obviously needs to be seeded.

Skimmer pump died this evening, quite the bummer. My wife hates the smell of skimmate and I wasn't feeling too bad so I decided to empty the collection cup instead of asking her to do it. I managed to use one crutch and hop to the bathroom without spilling it just to find that the pump wouldn't restart.

I'll work on it a little after the kids are in bed, but it looks like I'm ordering a new Sedra 5000 tonight.

Well, I was able to get my skimmer pump running again but I think it's on borrowed time. When power is applied, it only wants to start about a 1/3 of the time. Basically, I have to keep cycling power until it is running ok. Not good. I haven't ordered the replacement yet, but will within the next couple of months. Fortunately I'm not really pulling any skimmate out at the moment (no nutrients for the skimmer to pull) so I won't have to turn it off very often.

After two weeks, I'm still not detecting any ammonia. I'm guessing that the two pieces of rock I bought were cured and had very little die off. I am however starting to get a lot of brown algae and some hair algae. This weekend I plan to pick up a few snails and my first fish. I can't say for certain that my tank has actually finished the cycle, but even with feeding the tank I don't think there is enough ammonia to do anything. I'm going to get one False Perc on Friday and cross my fingers.
