Receeding Head on an Acan

I have this nice Acan that I recently got. It wasn't colored up, but after a few feeding, it has a few heads that are in the process.

I noticed tonight that one head that would never eat or show feeding tentacles, is showing some receeding tissue like STN for SPS.

Should I be worried or something?

I think it might be caused by too much flow, but I am not sure. Are acans into high, medium, or low flows?

Thanks for your help

I keep mine all in low flow. Tissue will stay retracted, and even be blown off the skeleton with too much current.

All the Acan lovers out there don't have any input??????

More of it is receeding now and I do not know what is causing it.

A picture would be nice. I had a piece of Acan that got stung by an echinata. There was half a polyp left. Now it's about 8 polyps. Is it a Lord? Again, picture would be good.

Most acans like medium flow, what type of lighting do you have, how high up in the tank?

Are there any signs of brown jelly or is the tissue just receeding?

If the tissue is just receeding, I would move the piece to a low flow low light area and just wait it out.

its under 250 watt 10k reeflux bulb. The acan is almost 14 inches away from the lighting. There has not been any sign of jelly. It is just the tissue receeding along the edge. Seems to be getting worst day by day and the mouth is gaping as you may see on the picture.

So I shouldn't chop it up ?

If just recently got the colony and have it that close to the light I would say that is more than likely your problem. Acans don't like to tossed right into that much light. I would move it to a shaded area with low flow and give it some time to recover. If it doesn't show any sign of improvement I would frag away the affected area. Keep up regular feedings.

I don't think so? I watch my tank constantly (I hope :P).

The reason why I kept the coral up that high is because my LFS had it for a week under 150 watt DE 10k in his tank.

I moved it to a calmer location and I am going to dip it as per suggested by many.
