i got this kole tang yesterday and i was just curious what others have been feeding them. i thought they had similar eating habits as a one spot foxface (which i have) so i gave them omega one marine flakes which the foxface goes crazy for but the kole hasnt touched them. i also have mysis shrimp and brine shrimp mixed with algae cubes in the fridge as well as nori.

i will probably try the nori tomorrow but so far the kole is doing well scavenging for itself and i am hoping it goes for the nori but was wondering what others could suggest. it still seems scared of me at feeding time as well so that may be a factor...

Kole tangs are algae grazers, so they love older, more mature tanks.

He may, or may not go for what you are feeding. It's too early to tell. Sometimes the fish will eat straight out, sometimes, it'll take up to a week, or more.

Is this fish in QT? Along with several other reasons, QT will help isolate the fish, so you can concentrate on the feeding without competition...

Best of luck, and keep us posted...

My kole eats nori, flakes, pellets, brine, and mysis. He is very active during feeding time, it might just take a little while for him to feel comfortable.

Mine eats everything, too. But he also grazes on the algae on the glass all day long. You can see little spots where he sucks the algae off when my tank needs scraping. I also leave the back wall unscraped so my tangs have a constant algae source. (it's not a noticeable amount of algae, just a very thin film)

Mine eats everything as well. Nori, pellets, myses, etc..

He also grazes all day as well.

So far his favorite seems to be Nori, I rotate green, red, and brown daily; and pellets. He goes nuts at feeding time.

I have similar fish in my qt for about 10 days. Spotted yellow eye bristletooth tang. I use garlic in the flake and he eat very well. They are really shy fish so I use Herbtana to remove stress and help with parasite too (don't know if it really work but he is doing well and no ich). I think to use cupramine too after this treatment to be sure. This is my second try with this fish. First time I've put it directly into the tank and with all the stress he was not eating. Ich got him and kill couple of my fish too. I have a qt now.

Mine eats everything NOW, including flakes, pellets, and frozen, but it took a long time before it started taking prepared foods. They can be really skittish. If you can find some stick-on algae tabs sometimes that does the trick. QT with big pvc pipes is very helpful to get these fish settled and eating.

Took mine 3 days to eat nori, 7 days for mysis and 14 days for pellets. He was also timid for like 10 days...now he is so overt and eats everything even my finger when I'm putting in food. Yours will soon also...they are shy at first but give it time and allow him to slowly open on it's own...he will be fine.
