recession or growth?

Is there a simple way to tell the differance?
I have mainly lps which grows great about a month ago I bought a small montipora frag placed it high in the tank and in good flow it seems to have pretty good PE. The edges have started to get a white/faded color and I cannot tell if it is new growth or if it is receding?

your the only one that can tell with no before and after photos, sorry.

but..... montiporas grow with a room light on so im sure its growth.

Gotcha I figured as much. I would post pics but the angle of the pics suck so it would be pointless.
And wow I didn't know they were that easy to grow lol I was looking for something a little harder than my lps.

heres a good format to follow for help with sps. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2430841

yea get a green slimmer they are the next easy thing but everything is easy to grow. If everything is in line then anything can be grown.

So you have a mixed tank........ might run into problems being your never going to get the full potential out of either....

Do you have a refractometer?
Do you have a ATO?
Do you have testing equipment for alk,cal and mag?

Good luck

Yes I have a mixed it's a 46 with a 55 sump. Yes it's a mixed reef I actually planned on all lps and z's and p's but I was at the lfs and I liked it so I figured I would give it a try. And yes I have all that. I use red sea and salifert last I tested was at
10 dkh
Cal. 410
Mag 1360
Sg .025
No3 5ppm

Weekly water changes
IO reef crystals
Coralife 125 super skimmer
Chinease 165 watt leds 10 inches off the water
Marine snow
Temp is 78

you can grow any sps with those parameters and lighting. i use reef crystals also. as long as you have a skimmer and ato you should be good.
