Recirc Mod???

Has anyone done a recirc mod on their skimmer? I have an old skimmer that I'd like to give it a try. I've done a search through RC's forums and all I can really find are mods to an ASM skimmer.

I did my old Euro-Reef last year, a little scary but IMO worth it. I followed the ASM instructions and adapted for my simmer. Quick advice is get all the pieces assembled, measure three times and double check again before drilling. I got my uniseals from Aquatic Eco Systems in Orlando, the pvc at Lowes.

Yeah, I just got my uni-seals from Aquatic Eco this week. I started looking at the skimmer pump and how did you adapt the intake to connect to the skimmer body? Am I better off buying a new pump for the skimmer that I can connect with PVC?

Got any pics?

Thanks,

Dan

I mounted the pump vertically with the intake pointing down, believe I used 3/4" pvc slip elbow then a small section of pipe into the uniseal. I had to sand the outside of the venturi housing to get it to fit into the elbow, just used a press fit.

Out of curiousity, what is the main advantage to doing a recirc mod???? Is it essentially that the skimmer then does not have to be located in your sump???

its suppose to have a longer dwell time and because the feed pump brings the intake to around 1-1.5 x the tank volume.

i have mixed opinons. my 6-3rc (30") is doing pretty good. and i have a 6-2+(28") thats seems to be running kneck to kneck with it however. both have the sedra 5000 pumps from euroreef.
