I have a 200 gallon system heavy stock. I plan on adding another 100 or so gallons to the system next spring. Does anyone have a recommendation for this protein skimmer. I like the pump but I have no experience with this brand, only RO. Also has anyone seen this for less then $699. I have my tank where I teach and I wrote a grant for the skimmer but it would be nice to save a little cash.

Thanks,

I'm using SWC 230 Cone on my 210. I would say it's almost right, maybe just slightly undersized. The pump pulls more air and the body is bigger than the AquaMaxx. SWC's numbers are more realistic in terms of how much the skimmer could handle. I got mine new, but not from their store, so I saved a little.

I've got a 1000 dollar aqua medic skimmer for sale used for $400 T5000 single.
it would be good for 300 gallon system and give you room to grow, its 8 inch skimmer 6.5 feet tall.

From what I read it sounds like any skimmer works but the pump makes the deal. I would like a skimmer with a band name pump, I think that is what's drawing me to the aquamaxx. I have a RO and I can't stand the bb pump on it but I don't know about the new pumps they run nor do I know about the DC pumps they have. Any info?

I love my Aquamaxx CO-2 for my 120G+40B sump. ATM, it's on my 75G, but it'll handle a heavily stocked tank for the near future. Great build quality and dead silent. I think if you like the look of the Aquamaxx you should go for it.

I hated the pump on the BB too, way too loud. With the Askoll I literally didn't know it was running. Don't know about the new DC pumps, wanted to get my hands on one but haven't yet.

I just picked up a Diablo and am in awe of it's performance, was going to go with the next larger one but the foot print was too big. It blows away every other skimmer I've ever had. The only problem is keeping up with all the skimmate it churns out, it's not pressurized so even if you use a collection chamber like PM's, it will still bubble away and push skimmate out the top the collection cup. I've only got it set at 3 out of six speeds.
It's got a lot of power but is easy to adjust. Give it a look http://www.aquacave.com/Reef-Octopu...-Skimmer-with-DC-Pump-up-to-300gal-P3870.aspx

I was thinking about getting the RO DIABLO DCRS 200 RECIRC any recommendations or comparisons between that and the cone 5
