Recommend a Macro Lens for a Nikon D80

raskal: get the Sigma 105mm and a tripod and you will be producing amazing pictures. Just make sure to set the white balance and the fstop between 10 - 20. You will be making stunning photos. If you want to get closer you can buy a teleconverter which usually come in various magnifications between 1.2 and 2.0. This will basically turn your 105mm into a 210mm.

I won't get into great detail but your D80 will actually magnify the 105mm to 168mm. So you are getting quite the zoom.

Well the guy with the D80 decided he wanted to keep the camera so I went with the D70 with the Macro lens.

Here is the best picture I was able to get last night. Full picture no cropping on raw mode. I adjusted to show 20k lighting from there.

Thanks everyone for your help, I'm sure I'll have many other questions in the future.

Raskal, that is a beautiful picture for the first try, you definitely don't need any help from us. Personlly I would like see more depth by stopping down. How did you adjust the white balance to compensate the 20K, Photoshop software or hardware on the D70?

It looks like it’s through the camera itself. The camera is saving the picture twice, one as JPG and the other as a raw file. When I click to open the raw file it opens a program that I don’t have on my pc so I’m assuming it’s through the camera. There is an option to adjust with balance where I just typed in 20,000 which is the K bulb I’m using on this particular system.

hah, the 105mm sigma is sooo light compared to a ton of lenses out there =) You'll get used to it.

TIME TO HIT THE GYM!!! ;)
