Recommend HQI bulb.

I'am currently running a 14K 250 W Pheonix over my 20 gal long SPS/clam tank. Due to be replaced next month. Are there any other bulbs I should take a look at? I do not run Actinics.

I have a 150W HQI so a little different. I liked the color of the XM15K but then I tried a Phoenix. It is gorgeous! I love the hue of the Phoenix and have yet to find something I like as much from any other bulb. Maybe an Iwasaki 15K but that's a horse of a different color.

either way..
other than the bulb you have it would be either
For Bluer: evc 20k, (the evc 14k is almost ideltical to your current).
For Whiter: ushio 10k, or maybe some 12k bulb someone else might reccomend

the better question would of been:

"recommend a DE bulb"

But not all bulbs are built to the HQI specification, so his query was correct, and yours is not. His just includes the SE radiums, as well as all DE bulbs.

As if you or anyone else was confused. 250 watt Phoenix bulbs are only available in DE format so anyone with experience with this bulb would know. Also when talking bulbs DE bulbs are normally referring to DE bulbs. The only one who brought up ballast type was you. You do know that you can run DE bulbs on electronic ballasts right?

FWIW, I replaced my Phoenix 14K with Reeflux 12K. On HQI ballasts (as I have) they are very white, on electronic ballasts (my friend runs these) they appear more blue. I prefer the Reeflux over the Phoenix for usable bulb life and color.

If you have an e-ballast I suggest the Reeflux 10K. I use one of these on an e-ballast over a frag tank and it looks great. Growth and color have been exceptional.

If you want something more blue, I have used and really liked the BLV 20K. Nice even color that held for the 4 months (I took the tank down) that I used it.
