Recommend PVC Parts please

Hi All,

I have to plumb the underside of my tank as I have two brand new 1" slip x 1" slip bulkheads.

I'm curious if any of you reefers have any recommendations for a best method of dealing with the 1" slip connections under the tank. I am not aware of the entire world of PVC fitting options but I do know that I can get a 1" slip x hose barb fitting to glue in and hook braided hose. However if there is another alternative that will offer me more options (down the road) plumbing wise I'm curious to know about it. My two bulkheads....one with be primary over flow and the other is simply an emergency overflow. I am thinking to have the primary overflow "T off" and have a bypass that will allow my water to either enter the refugium or the skimmer chamber.

Any suggestions for my most versatile option on that bottom slip connection?

Thanks!

I would hard plumb everything. In the long term it is more rugged. You could just cement 1" PVC into the bulkhead and then you could use any attachment you wanted. Make sure to add a bunch of unions, makes adjustment and changes much easier.

I agree, hard plumb and cement the pipe into the dry side of the bulkhead underneath. Adding at least 1 union each onto the drain and return piping gives maintenance flexibility down the road.

The options are limitless, just make sure you support the PVC so it is not putting stress on the glass around the bulkhead

Thanks!

Are you saying that you would pvc glue in a 1" piece of PVC pipe directly into the bulkhead and then use unions, etc from there?

that is exactly what many of us do. A small piece of pipe to work as the coupling if you will between the bulkhead and the union to be used for quick disconnects if needed. Even better I like to use union ball valves like BRS sells so I can turn off the overflow and undo all of the plumbing without water dripping into my stand and such.
