Recommendation of LFS in Michigan

This question may have been asked but I could not find it in the archives any where. Anyone from Michigan able to recommend a LFS in the Metro Detroit area? I thought there use to be one at 15 and Ryan in Sterling Heights but I went by the other day and it looks like it closed up shop. Any information would greatly be appreciated.

The one at 15 ande ryan moved. They are at auburn abd dequindre. Changed names too. Aquarium shine.
Theres stingray bay, oceans and seas, seashells,Kee's,and one at 11 mile and vandyke.
All these are within 30 minutes of each other.

Pet Connection (5-mile and middlebelt in Livonia) and Choice (12-mile and Orchard Lake) are the two I go to the most. I also like Kee's when I get more to the east side, and Trop if I'm near the airport.

Kee's has always been good to me, 23mile & old van dyke
SeaShells announced today they are going out of business :(
Reef Solutions 11mile & Van Dyke
Preuss in Lansing
Choice Aquariums 12mile & Orchard Lake Rd

Those are the only stores I have been too and I would recommend all.

You have got to go to Tropicorium just to check the place out, the amount of stuff they have and the corals are great, probably a little pricey but the selection is amazing.

As far as stores for fish I would recommend the Fish Doctors. They have a few locations, I live in Canton so I go to the Canton store. as wrasseguy2 said can't work with two better guys than Juan and Marcus. They will work with you, order things for you, and will steer you right.

Also have got good things from Pet Connection in Livonia, and Something Fishy in (Garden City or Westland) not sure what city it is exactly in.

From my side of the state West Michigan the LFS of choice are V.I.P. in Plainfield great customer service and selection) and Pruess in Lansing (awesome place and top notch selection)

A few weeks ago I stopped at quite a few Metro-Detroit LFS while on the road for work (I work for myself, so I wasn't cheating!), here are the stores that I stopped at and a short review...

Oceans and Seas: Large store, always seem to have their coral tanks full, fish selection seems to be hit-or-mis, make sure you go after they get a shipment... Coral prices seem high but they have excellent prices on fish.

Stingray Bay: Nice store, great selection of live stock, prices seem average, staff is very helpful.

Reef Soloutions: Staff is great, this is a brand new store so I only saw their coral tanks full of stock, no fish while I was there but I understand their tanks are full now.

Amazon Stingrays: Kind of an odd location but their prices make up for it! Very nice staff and where else can you get a Blue Spot Jawfish for $59 (I thought it was a misprint but was assured the prices were correct!)

SeaShells: Sorry to read that they're closing up shop but I wasn't impressed. Tanks all looked like they needed some work, I felt the prices were fairly high. Really nice display tank with a nice fat Mandarin and Copperband Butterfly (where do you ever see that?)

Aquarium Shine: Nice little store, decent selection, prices seemed average, staff was attentive.

Choice: Decent sized store, lots of livestock. I thought most of the prices were very high like $199 for a Burgess Butterfly that I bought a couple of weeks earlier at another LFS for $99... I went there to look at a specific fish that I called them about and almost felt pressured to buy the fish once
I was in the store. I left the store with out it...

Kee's: Staff is really nice, good sized store with a ton of dry goods as well as livestock, their tank always seem to be full of fish and corals that seem to be priced well plus you can always find coupons somewhere...

Just my take on things... -Steve

Thanks everyone. A lot more than I thought was here. I'll have to stop by Seashells after work today and see if they have any deals since I am on a budget at the moment.

If you ever need salt Pet Connection in Livonia (5 Mile & Middlebelt) have the best price $39 for a 160g bucket of IO. Can't beat that with a shovel!

Another vote for Kees & Preuss. Preuss isn't in Metro Detroit, but it's worth the drive to Lansing if you're in MI.

So, Greenwoods (9 mile and schoener) and Wet Pet (12 mile and southfield) are both gone now?

Back in the day, (circa 1980) there was a store called Black Lagoon, and another at 14 mile in Clawson. We used to have a circuit - we'd drive out from Ann Arbor and hit like 10 different stores there and back.... Pet Connection is the only one mentioned that was in business back then (well, and Preuss's)

What was the name of that store on Middlebelt whose business was breeding piranha and selling feeder goldfish?
