recommendations for frag/q-tine tank

I have a 40 Breeder drilled and and a 29 long for a sump....return pump is a mag 7 (i believe) and my skimmer for the time being is a Coralife 125 Super skimmer (does well in sump-not so good hangon) 175 MH 10K refflux and two 36 inch VHO actinics.

The big question/decision is to go barebottom

I can put live rock in sump, but dont think sand in the sump will work

also be aware that I use NSW and have it available fresh on demand

knowing the pros

** having good flow in the tank
** exporting excess nutients with weekly water changes

knowing the cons

** only having live rock for biological filtration

does anyone run similar setups or have any other ideas/suggestions

Thanks in advance

I have used this setup with with 20g long tanks online without issue. I am currently going to a 125g acrylic that will be bare bottom, the sump is a 125g as well divided in half lengthways. Half of which will be a refugium with a dsb and the other half will be filled with liverock. Strong flow in the main tank, combined with strong skimming and the refug/sump hopefully will work out well again. Hope this helps.
