Recommendations on heaters?!

Built-in thermostat or to be controlled via an Apex?

Built-in:
Eheim Ebo-Jager
Fluval E-Series

Non built-in:
Finnex

There is a new Eheim heater out, named "Eheim Preset". Eheim heaters are excellent, the previous model, the jager is a very popular one.

This might have to be my new heater. Depends on price and availability when I need one. Finnex titanium is my first choice right now

My understanding from speaking to someone who has more info is that being preset, they will attain more consistency across units, which is a problem with all heaters, and also did a better job sealing the heating element/electronics from water(other issue the jager had problems).

If this is true, it will be an excellent heater. The 200w unit heats up a good 100 gals which is a great volume/watt.

I have several of the preset heaters. The issues I have observed are:

1. Using the NIST thermometer I determined that the heater preset at 78 degrees was actually only warming the water to 76.5

2. What if I want the water warmer than the heater is preset to?

You have the brand new Eheim preset heaters that just came out? Link: http://www.google.com/search?q=ehei...AUICCgC&biw=360&bih=512#imgrc=MhsxIE5IgCXMVM:

If one wants a warmer tank, then the regular Jager would be best bet.
I'm curious as to what temp these Eheim preset are actually set to, but I was told they are to be more accurate...so we'll see I guess

I have a eheim jager and a finnex titanium heater. The eheim is adjustable, and can be calibrated for accuracy. Mine has kept its temp for the last three years. But you need a separate thermometer to monitor the tank actual temp. The finnex, OTH, has a LED display control pad which you can use to adjust and monitor the tank temperature.
