Recommended pH probe for neptune?

Anyone recommend a reasonably priced pH probe for the Neptune controllers? I will need a second one for the calc reactor.

Either neptune, miluakee, or pinpoint (no partcular order)
Side note the Neptune one is the only one they support. But IMO all work equally well.

Awesome. Are the lab grade probes worth it? Or should I just get standard grade probes? How often do you replace probes?

Are those lab grade or standard grade? Where do you buy yours?

Get mine usually from Premium Aquatics (standard probes). There is supposedly a new type that is rechargable more $$$ but better value in the long run. I don't have any personal experience with them though.

I just use the standard.

Phishy or PremiumAquatics ~45 new.

We bought one of those cheap ones off ebay to try out. So far it has been extremely accurate. Way cheaper than the pinpoint ones.

I got one of the cheap ones from great del on Ebay two months ago.
At first it was giving me very good readings (agreed with other AC Jr).

This week it started giving me funny readings. It was showing 7.65 on the 210g. My other AC jr on the 75 was showing 8.2.

I calibrated it (twice) with 7.0 and 10.0 solutions.
The calibration went OK, but it still read too low in the tank.

To sanity check, I put it back in the 7.0 and it read 7.04, in the 10.0 it read 10.0.
I put it in the tank and it was back to 7.70.

I checked the pH with a handheld meter and it read 8.1.
I believe the probe is suspect since my other two probes agree within a tenth.

How can a probe calibrate correctly, but give suspect readings in salt water?

The probe on my other Ac Jr is a pinpoint. It is 2 years old and still gives good readings.

Standard grade probes usually have a degree of accuracy of +- .1
Lab grade probes usually have a degree of accuracy of +- .01
I have always used standard grade.

Yeah I would bet it is the probe, Ken. But you can buy 3 for the price of a pinpoint meter. So far we're going on 6 months with good results. We didn't have exceptional luck with a pinpoint probe either.

Thanks for the ideas. I will check them out. This will be the calc reactor probe attached to an Apex.

Hi there.

Do you recall the name of the seller on Ebay?
There's more than 1 listed currently.

Thanks.

That is the same I guy I got mine from. It worked great for 2 months and now the readings are all over the map.

When compared to a handheld and my other AC Jr (Same water) it is way off, as much as 0.50.

I have calibrated twice and it calibrates correctly.
I tried it on a different head unit and it just kept climbing past 10.

Not to mention, if it goes haywire on your CA reactor, that's a lot of money wasted on destroyed media (enough to have purchased a good probe in the first place).

I have tested my probe against a few others and after 6 months it's still reading perfectly. I had some issues with a pinpoint probe before. Maybe it's just luck of the draw. I'm also not using it for a calc reactor, so it's not a huge worry if I find that I need a new one.
