Recommended Pumps for Water Movement

Hi,

I am setting up a 50G cube and would like a recommendation for Tunze pumps that would provide an appropriate level of water movement. The tank will be stocked with lps and soft corals. Sps may be added after the tank is well established and I feel I have appropriate experience. From what I have read, I believe 1000 to 1500 gph flow would be more than adequate. Is this correct? If so, or if not, what combination of pumps, controller etc. would you recommend?

Also, the return pump is rated at about 500gph and based on about 4' head will be significantly lower.

Any info would be appreciated.

A single 6095 would likely be the best suited, you can adjust the flow from between about 500 and 2400 gph and the flow is wide and diffuse so it is ideal for LPS and soft corals. I would pair it with a 7092.

Roger, thanks for the reply.

I was expecting to need 2 pumps to provide sufficient multi-directional flow. How would the one pump be set by the controller to provide sufficient flow? Using some of the features such as pulse? Also, would one pump be sufficient in the future for sps?

I guess I didn't think one pump could provide a broad enough flow to cover the whole tank and prevent dead spots.

I would agree in almost every circumstance, this tank however is so small (I have set one of those up before and it is 24 by 24 by 20 IIRC), that the water will bounce back and with pulse mode alone you should have a good flow. It will definitely do the job for SPS. That pump can cover a 3ft by 3ft area.
