Recovering from stn?...

Hi all!

What would you do with colonies that have suffered from stn? Pull them out and frag the salvageable parts or will they grow back down the old skeleton? Old pic, cyano's not as bad.

Holy bubble algae... I'd address the cause of the STN which im guessing is probably due to nutrients. Fragging an already stressed piece is the last ditch effort.

Yup... Bubble algae and cyano has been addressed... Old pic. Bad advice of leaving bubbles alone for fear of spores colonizing somewhere else (it's all been scrapped off now) I think the cause of the stn was actually low spec grav and alk swings. Stn has pretty much come to a standstill I was just wondering what the chances were of it growing back down was. Otherwise, the pieces will end up being fragged.

If you have indeed brought stability in both SG and Alk then that's great! Sadly SPS doesn't regrow like that. If the tissue is dead, then it's dead. Fragging is probably the way to go at that point. Here's an interesting move though:

If you snip off not only the dead area, but a small amount of live tissue, you will be able to plant the dead tip in the sand/rockwork of your tank to see if you can get a frag out of the deal. That also lets the mother colony split where you cut it at the live tissue.
