Recreating a Perc' pair

Guillaume

Another reef dependant
I lost one of my two black percs about three years ago. Now there's another black perc at the LFS and I thought it would be nice to recreate a pair. Now this is my plan:
1- remove the current perc (most probably a female, with the time)
2- add the new & much smaller perc for him to set in (juvenile by the way, so probably a male)
3- move back the current perc in the tank, and see

There is plenty of euphelia to sleep on in the tank, only another tang and that's it.
Seams like I would also follow the rules of "recreating pairs" from the sticky FAQ here: http://archive.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=215098
And maybe step 1 could even be forgot.

What do you think of this plan?

Tx!

After 3 years I have little doubt that your clown is a female. How big is the clown at your LFS compared to yours?

I lost my male B/W and did not add another for 8 months or so. I added a 1" to 1.5" B/W to my tank without removing the much larger female and they bonded within an hour. She went at him, he flinched/shook once and no other fighting other than a chase here and there.

The current one is about 2 1/2 inches. The new is no more than one inch.
Good to know it worked for you.

Yea you really don't have to go through the trouble of removing the larger one, just put the smaller one in, they'll meet up, check each other out, the smaller one will do its submissive shake dance, and thats that.

IMO there is no need to remove the female when introducing a juvenile or male. You will no within the first hour is they will get a long or not.

When I created my pair I had the new juvenile male in quarantine, and when I was ready to introduce them I took her out of the reef and put her in a critter keeper. The next day I let her out at feeding time. The two of them swam to each other, turned side by side, and have been together peacefully ever since.

She was 2.5 years in my reef at that point, over three inches long, and he was about an inch long.

Well, so the juvenile is in the tank since yesterday evening. As yesterday, the female still snif a little the juvenile and most of the time chase it from its euphelia. No match yet in the last 12 hrs. I fed everyone last evening and this morning to reduce stress with full belly.
Should I wait again. I have in mind to move the euphelia to sort of remove the territory. Or even remove the female for 2 days or so.
Any thought?

Some signs of agressivity tonight and still no access to ''home''.
Next try:
-remove the female for 1-2 days
-removing the territory (euphelias)
-putting back the female and see
-maybe then putting back the euphelia, which by the way needs some trimming.

Any experiences telling that it's already too late??

How aggressive??? 2 days isn't really that long. If they are not locking up they are still working it out. Have any pics? I wouldn't mess with the scape or territories.

What is the size difference and did the clown you get come from a tank with several clowns or was it the only one in the tank?

Agressive like kicking on the juvenile with her nose each time he approaching the euphelia, sometime very quickly, as you may know. I saw also that when I put food, the female is a bit more kicking, like not just around the euphelia but around the tank too.
I'll come with picks.
Tx!

The little guy and big (not so) mama. Euphelia heads in the middle front of the tank is the territory. Juvenile is tipically staying in this place, sometime at right side two but never much closer to the Euphelias. A trap in the background not working much this time with the female watching too much its terrritory.
Also, the female may look smaller than it is on the second pic, being a bit farther than the juvenile.
