I introduced a hi fin red banded goby to my 90 gallon about 2 months ago. I had a pistol shrimp in the tank already. Since introducing him the only way I've been able to know he is still alive is by looking at the bottom of the tank though the stand. Him and the goby have a home under one of the bigger rocks you can often see them. The shrimp is active in moving sand and can be heard at night across the house snapping his claw.
In the two months he's been in there I have not once seen the goby. I've checked at feeding time, during day, at night, even peeking down inside the sand caves made by the shrimp around their rocks.
I guess my question is how long can this fish survive this way? It's a low nutrient lps/sps dominant tank, so there is not much in the way of algae that he could be eating. I was under the impression this species of goby needed meaty foods to survive.
I almost regret not buying something less shy like a YWG.
Any thoughts?
