I am having a issue with a red bubble algea.

Anyone know how to get rid of these besides popping them or scraping them off out of tank.

Sorry the pic isnt best quality,

I took the rocks out and plucked off the ones I could. Just did it today so don't know if they will be back stronger or not.
Does anyone know if they are like the green bubbles? with little ones inside???

That is what I was wondering if they had little spores inside that spread it.

I wish I could take the rock out but everything is mounted.

I think they spread from being popped, becuase my return PVC pipe is covered with them and the pipe hasnt touched a infected rock.

Edwin- Is it red bubble algae or bubbles in red cyano. I have found that this is sometimes caused because of a fluctation in heat. Is your tank hotter than usual of late?

NOpe, its the same, its been going on for a while. I have had cyano before and that was just on the sand, But never in bubbles.

Im pretty sure its a red bubble algea

I know what your talking about. Best thing to do is manually remove them while youre doing a water change. suck the whole bubble up and any spores it might release.

And then try to limit your nitrates/Phosphates a little bit more

Don't pop them or blow them off with anything or you may end up with a tank full. Try to siphon them out with a hose. Hard to tell from the pic but if it is Valonia type the last thing you want to do is spread spores all over the place. Mithrax crabs and the Desjardini Sailfin tangs have been known to eat bubble algea.

What you have is NOT red bubble algae... it's Cyano but because it's on the rocks the bubbles are building up inside of it (Because of photosynthesis). I have the same stuff right now and you basically have to let your tank do it's own thing

Ill take a picture of my return . They dont have anyting like cyano, nor my down spout.

Its pure Hard bubbles.

No, those are red bubbles guys. Was sittin back waiten to hear a cure, but everyones gettin stuck on the ID :D. You can really ID them easily (besides having a clearer picture ;) )when they get bigger as well, they start to develop some really cool bright rusty orange speckles on them. If they get broken or pop there is a gel'ish substance inside them unlike the watery liquid inside green bubbles. Although not as prolific as green bubbles or valonia sp. they can mutliply fairly fast and are a nuicance to get rid of. Airinhere had the best advice so far that I know of. My only fear and unknown would be the gel stuff inside, I would imagine it to not only contain a few spores, but because it's gel'ish would also assume it to be allopathic, possibly toxic to corals or inhibitive to their growth.

Hope that helps a little bit.

As you can see, they are pretty much everywhere on my return.

I guess the next time I am doing a water change, Ill have to try and scrape and suck them off with a hose.

I had the same problem in my 60 gallon tank. Since I added my Foxface most of it has been eaten up. These fish are great algea eaters especialy the bubble type.

I wish I could house one even temporarily, but I think it would still be too big even for a short stay. Unless I found a lil guy with a big appatite :D
