Red bugs dilema

Hi everyone,

So I have red bugs in my tank and I also have interceptor :celeb1:. I am pretty sure I know where/who I got the red bugs from. I want to get more frags from this person because they are nice frags at a reasonable price. My question is this...should I:

1) treat my tank now with interceptor, purchase frags from this guy and treat the red bugs in a dip, along with followup tank treatments

2)should I get frags from the guy dip them in Revive, add to the tank and treat the whole tank for redbugs after the fact to kill them all in one swoop.

Obviously I'm going to be doing 3 weeks of treatments, etc etc...which is typical for the treatment of red bugs. Also a quarantine tank is not an option, which I know is not ideal.

Thanks everyone for your input.

Sean

Honestly, I would go with option 2 and skip the dip if you are dipping for red bugs. No need for the added stress if you are going to treat the whole system.

I just treated with interceptor 2 days ago, and I am very glad I did. I lost an acropora crab but saw a huge difference in corals that I did not see redbugs on.

The piece in the picture was the only piece that ever showed them. I dipped it in the interceptor treatment for 40 min and then dosed the tank.

Odd side effects were all pods died off, and that is ok I had too many. Bristle worms died. Over all water clarity improved as well, why I have no clue. I will use it for all 3 treatments no problem.

Langston's Seafoam acropora before and after.

Where can I get interceptor if I ever need it, and how to use it? By the way I would go with number 2.

If it were me I would treat the tank how it is now and then QUARANTINE every new coral. If you ended up with red bugs there is a good chance you will end up with AEFW and they are MUCH MUCH worse than red bugs. I learned my lesson as I am battling AEFW right now and will quarantine from now on.

Thanks everyone! I was thinking about going with the first option. I am not too nervous about RB's but am really scared about getting AEFW's. What is the best methods besides quarintine? I always use revive...but obviously it's not a cure-all.

Anybody have any links to great dipping methods? Ive seen a bunch but it would be awesome to figure out a combination that could knockout some of the common nasties (RB's, AEFW's, etc)...

Was thinking about Revive, iodine, fluke tabs and interceptor...i just don't know soak times. How do iodine dips work on AEFW's?

I have a japanese red pistol shrimp in the system (forgot to mention :/) and am having trouble catching him out. I've read of cleaner shrimp surviving etc...do you guys think that he'll make it if I leave him in during treatment?? Do you guys know a good way of catching him? I was thinking about making a mini trap but there has to be a better way.

He will survive if you dose the recommended amount of interceptor.

I just did a treatment with intercepter. On the first treatment all shrimp were fine on the second treatment lost my peperment shrimp but my skunk cleaner is fine. So you just don't know.

the recommended dosage is that you have to figure it out yourself based on size of system (total water volume). One large pill treats 400 gallons of water.

I used 1/4 large pill on a 58g display with 20g sump. Red bugs are gone and I didn't lose any inverts.
