Red bugs?

There is a lot of info on reefcentral about interceptor. Basically it is a medication used for cats and dogs to prevent heart worms. Interceptor works by stopping the heart of the heart worms. And it just so happens that red bugs and other similar crustaceans have a similar heart. If you treat with interceptor it can kill other crustaceans such as shrimps, crabs and amphipods but I know some people who were able to treat their tanks without losses. They did it by using just enough to kill the red bugs but not enough to affect the larger arthropods like cleaner shrimps. But if you really want to be safe you should remove all desirable arthropods and add the recommended dosage.

As for getting interceptor, it is usually a prescription only drug but you may be able to talk to your vet (if you have one) or a local vet about your problem.

thanks for the heads up. yeah, I spoke with a vet before and he said i needed to bring the infected coral in for him to prescribe interceptor. Not sure if any medical journal documentation about interceptor being used on red bugs are needed. since the veterinarian is a fellow hobbyist.

Hmm just saw that you got a new lokani. You may want to hold off on getting new corals until you treat your tank. Red bugs are particular to smooth skinned acros like deep water species and torts. Adding more acros now will just give them more to munch on and possibly compromise treatment.

"help' just arrived today. My lokani has been doing very well for the past week. I'm thinking about raising it and seeing how it'll change.

Oh yeah I was also curious how long you had your cadlights tank for? I have a cadlights 50g as well and I like seeing other cadlights 50g's. I feel a sort of odd camaraderie with other cadlights artisan owners.

I got mine May of last year. this pic is approx few months old. since then i have added another frag rack and replaced all my softies with the exception of a few polyps for 10 or more acros. I just got a new camera and i still haven't learned to use it. feel free to post yours if you like.
