Red Bugs

Looks like I got red bugs, not sure how I dip every thing in Revive. Any how does any one have Interceptor or have a vet that understands why it is used to kill red bugs?

Bummer- dam - it seems no matter how careful we are, something gets threw our safety nets. I switched to using Bayer insecticide for dipping when I get a new coral frag. Not sure if it works better or not.

Bayer will kill adults, eggs are the problem.
I think dip every 3 days to get hatching eggs.
I dip everything in Bayer, 10 ml per cup tank water, 15min then rinse and in tank.

hmm will have to check out up north thxs for the suggestion.

I think they have been in there awhile, I just never noticed them they seem to be only affecting a few corals, so I just figured maybe the corals where not happy in my tank.

It does suck that I found them but at the same time I am excited to see the results once I get rid of them.

I did go though this about 12 years ago and the inceptor worked out great. I can't remember what Vet i went too, to get it not saying they would still be around.

I got my interceptor spectrum on Friday, I am just getting around to dosing it today I just added it about 15 minutes ago. I got it from Canada, I called them to make sure it was ok for me to get it and they said it ships from Australia, which Interceptor is an over the counter medication.

Interceptor spectrum comes with an extra additive Praziquantel 228MG, but enough people have used it with no ill effects, so I am going to use it ( they don't make interceptor with out the extra additive at least from what I was able to tell with my searches on the internet). The medication that kills the red bugs is Milbemcyin 23MG. The large dog (51-100 pounds) chewable treats 380 gallons I have roughly 80 gallons of water volume, so I cut the pills up into 4 pieces and cut off a little extra. I let the pill soak in RO water for about 20 minutes I also heated it up a little so it would dissolve a little bit as u can imagine it does not dissolve easily.

I was not able to find the few hermit crabs that I have, which sucks I have had them for over 2 years now, hopefully they will make it.

I un-hooked the air line to my skimmer and removed my bag of carbon, I will be doing a water change later in the day, but will not be doing the recommended 20% I only do 5 gallon water changes once a week. I do have 30 gallons of fresh RO if I think I need it. I am not going to say not to do it, but this method was discovered 15 years ago (I remember following the person that came up with it wish I could remember there name) and I believe our modern skimmers will remove most of it. I have a omega vertech 150.

Was trying to get before an after pictures, but my Iphone 6 is not picking up the little red bastards.

with out getting into more details I am pretty much following this post from Biggar, so u can reference.

side note: the chewables that I got are good until 2019, so if anyone needs one let me know I will have a couple extra.

IT has been about 30 minutes all is well.

its been about 4 hours and I can honestly say I am very pleased with the results. I am seeing polyp extension on corals that I have not seen for a long time. I am going to give it another hour before hooking my skimmer back up and will be doing my 5 gallon water change. I have not seen my blue and red legged hermits which is normal they are more active at night. I hope they make it.

waited on updating until I was close to being sure that the red bugs are gone. I am 99% sure that they are wish I could find my magnifying glass to make sure. I only did 1 of the recommended 3 doses due to the wife and I going to the Philippines (hope to have some decent snorkel and maybe scuba pics) tomorrow for 3 weeks, so I didn't want to do to much in case something negative happen. As far as I can tell the hermit crabs are fine.

Also I am seeing better polyp extension on the effected corals and a couple of corals that I couldn't tell if there were any red bugs on them or not, my Paleta Pink tip has better PE then it has had in a long time. I am very happy with the ease and results on getting rid of the red bugs.
