Red Bugs

Is there a recommended method for treating the tank for red bugs?

If it looks like they are on just one coral, should I just remove and dip? Or should I dip all my acros?

Or use Interceptor? But won't that hurt the other inverts in the tank?

Only treatment for sure, interceptor. Pods and inverts will die. most effective treatment.

Srry to hear you got them. I havent seen any yet but I always worry.

I think I have them. Got some white area on a monti cap. You can see spots but I cannot tell if they are red bugs or not. I will remove the offending piece tonight.

Not sure where I got them Jeff. I haven't purchased anything from a store. Just from the frag swap back when, and from you. Some from Doc Roy, but that has been awhile ago.

Maybe I will bring the monticap to someone and they can tell me what is up. I realy don't want to kill off my inverts. Looking online here they also say a dip in Lugol's for about 15 minutes. It is only monticap, which grows well in my tanks (always has), and I know I could get more.

Do you have interceptor? Do you have another tank you could place all the acro's in for 5 days? I'd do 7 days if I were treating the whole tank. If you don't have something to place then in, then it might be easier to get a little tank and pull any shrimp you have and treat the whole tank.

From your pm you mention a monti cap but those don't get the red bugs.

First though, relax. They don't kill acros, just irritate them, slow growth and color. It's an easy fix.

Ok then, whew... I don't have them I guess because it is only my Monticap that has a problem. Now I am wondering what is up with the Monticap.

Roy I might visit you this weekend to show you the monti and get your opinion.

check for monti eating nudis.

What is the best method for that? How can I kill them if I have them?

Should I just remove the piece?

Or a macro lens ;)

These guys WERE NOT in my tank, someone had me come take pics to see if I could find any.

Howard, your best bet is to flip the montis over and look underneath or wait for the cover of darkness. I would remove every affected piece and either stick in it QT and try some fresh water dips and other stuff (check the SPS forum) or give them the black bag burial :(
