I know better and I should follow my own advise. I will tell you this, I will not trade or buy any frags from any hobbyist any more.
The joy is being spread around......

it does seem to be going around i got it a couple of months ago and did the treatment now i allways do the dips

I have the bugs twice, they are not that serious and are easy to treat. the biggest side affect is losing shrip and crabs if they are not removed. personally i dip in TMPCC and interceptor after that for 6 hrs on any corals and have still gotten "nasties" . after my upgrade (whenever that happens) I will qt for several weeks along with dipping

mflamb: thanks mike:thumbsup:

bigt0706: I treat for AEFW and nudis. Now I will be treating all frags for a min of 8hrs for red bugs. Too much crap going around.

poknsnok: Out of all the pest I will take red bugs any day, but its a pain for me. I have no room for a QT and I have to set up a temporary holding tank for 3 weeks for all the hermits and shrimp.

Ok, this thread has 131 hits and only 18 posted to the poll. I know some looked 2 to 3 times and myabe a few outsiders browsing to view the poll results, but I can count 25 local SPS hobbyist and if I really do some research I can come up with double to triple that amount.

Maybe they have not seen the thread or they just do not plain give a #$%# what they could possibly spread. :(

I always treat with a few different Meds to include TMPCC and interceptor.

I have gotten a few Tear down tanks that have had different nasties, but I knew that going in to the deal. My Dip procedures and Isolation (Im not quite sure it meets most QT procedures ) have been very successful with no re occurrences.

I didn't understand the importance until you (Paul) pointed it out to me. I also was present when you dipped some new corals and saw for myself what can come off these small little frags we get from each other.

I now have a procedure of dipping and then in the QT for a few weeks. I still have corals in my QT from my Orlando trip last month. will I ever get these nasty bugs - not if I can help it. Thanks Paul for showing me and teaching me the proper way to add corals and fish to my tank. Now you need to get busy and get that new tank ordered and get yourself a permanent QT setup :D.

You are absolutely right:D I know my new system will definitely have a couple of QT's

You know what kills me is that there are hobbyist out there that they know they have the critters and still sell frags.

I know it takes 2.

Everyone who has participated in the Poll so far ...Thank You  It is running for 30 days so anyone who has not yet done so you have time.

I gots a question. sorta off topic

I have a big stone crab in the biggest rock in my tank its like 50 lbs and covered in coral. i have tried evrything possible to get him out because every time i put a goby or something small in my tank he eats it. its drivin me crazy!! so i was thinkin of just treating my tank with interceptor i have sps but no known red bugs but i could just do it as a good precaution. I dont have any shrimp and few hermits that wont be an issue so what do u guys think of using interceptor as a tool to get rid of my stone crab?

It would be better (I hope lesson learned) to think before putting live living creatures into our tanks. Using a chemical to rid a animal that we made a mistake about putting in CRUEL - either live with it or break down your tank - This is just my opinion and something I could not do. If I really didn't want something in my tank - I'd break down the tank and try my best not to make the same mistake again. None of our sea animals should be seen as disposable because of our mistakes. I've had to break down my 75g tank because one of my fish got sick - it is my responsibility (yes it did take all day - but I'm an old lady :D).

Dragonface Pipefish ;) !!

Again think before adding living creatures "The Dragonface Pipefish reacts poorly when harassed by other more aggressive fish such as: blennies, larger wrasses, large gobies, triggerfish, and porcupinefish." If you have these corals in with sea horse or other calm fish - yes they may eat red bugs and take care of the problem. Better to avoid the problem by using proper methods - JMO. Our sea animals are not disposable please know what you are putting in your tanks before purchasing (JMO)!

The Hawk'ster - I'd be interested in knowing why people do not treat at all. It appears about half "None of the above, I do not treat or QT at all". Why is that - Don't care?, Don't know any better?, Figure I'll not get them? If you are not treating - you have them! It doesn't matter who you got the coral from. Just wondering because when I first started I also didn't know about the pests. I was more concerned about the flow, water parameters etc.

I do know people that have been purchasing or getting free corals recently will now have this problem if they didn't use proper methods - JMO. This is just like a social disease - please don't pass it along.

Won't make it in a reef. Too much flow.

A Friend of mine has a pair in his 570g reef with a decent amount of flow and they do fine. They are not like other pipefish and mainly stick to the rock work and substrate. I probably wouldn't keep them in a tank with Tunze's because they are small enough to get sucked into the grills but they may be ok in a C/L type system that has dead spots here and there.
My friend has his in with some big tangs and several small fish like gobies and blennies and they do not get picked on but triggers would have these little guys for lunch.
I am not saying that would recommend them for anything but a small species only tank but I know of at least one person who has been successful with keeping them in a community reef tank.

Yellow Wrasses are also a good natural way to control many coral pests.

ReefArtist, those are very good questions! Hopefully this thread will help those who are not aware of how important it is for treating corals/frags. The ones who do know and do not treat maybe it will help them reconsider.
